Ocean Conservation

On Monday this week a woman came in to talk to us about rubbish in the ocean. Her name was Libby Bowles. She had been biking though New Zealand on a bamboo bike going to schools to promote what she is trying to do which is stopping the rubbish in the ocean. After Libby had left we had to create a google drawing about what she was talking to us about. We had to include images things we learnt and what we were going to do about the rubbish.

Kiwiana Christmas Art

Last week in Te Ngahere we made Kiwiana Christmas art for a competition. This competition was all around New Zealand. We had our pieces of paper split into quarters. In each box we had to draw something that represents what we do for Christmas. Once we had finished drawing all our items for our box on the paper we had to colour them in and out line them with a vivid or a Sharpe. I like my drawing that I created.

P&I Show Poster

A couple of weeks ago in Te Ngahere we made a digital poster for the P&I Show. We had to create a google drawing and include lots of pictures and information about the show like where, the time, the date and the events. I learnt a lot of things about the P&I Show when I was researching about it for my poster. Did you know that the P&I Show was celebrating its 175th year? I really enjoyed making my poster.

Title: Reduce Reuse Recycle
Rubbish is everywhere now days down in an old town named Bean’O’Burg. Bean’O’Burg was fill of rubbish. Rubbish here rubbish there rubbish everywhere. The people of the town where all very unhappy because of the state of their town. Legends says that Bean’O’burg use to be a wonderful happy tidy place where everyone was happy and everyone always were outside. Well legends are actually like three months ago.

Bean’O’Burg was a dump but there was one person who really wanted to stop the rubbish and come up with a system to do it his name is… EVAN. Evan thought of ways to reduce reuse and recycle the rubbish in the town then it hit him a… HUGH MUNGUS TOWN CLEAN UP. Evan had trouble getting the word around but he finally did it after he designed a filer. Then he had to clear his front pouch to get out of his house. He had to find a stapler to use to put his filers up. Then he had to go around and find places to put up his files. Then he had to clear people front steps to give them filers because there don’t go outside so there can’t see the filers. Once Evan had finished he gathered the people of the town and started his speech to change this town.

Evans Speech:
As you all know I have put filers around our town to stop this rubbish. I have came up with a way to stop the rubbish in our town, we have a HUGH MUNGUS TOWN CLEAN UP. Do you want these town to be know as Trash’O’Burg
The crowd,No!
Evan said,Do you want to get this town back to the way it was!
The crowd,Yes!
Evan said, Well what are we waiting for mach my fellow town friends let’s do this!
The crowd,Let’s do this!

So everyone in the town of Bean’O’Burg got to work. There was people here people there people everywhere picking up rubbish. After hours and hours and hours it was finally done and the town was all happy again everyone was outside playing, swimming in the local river and people were having barbecues. Also families were building rafts for the raft race that was happening that weekend. And they were making them out of milk bottle and other materials they found when there were cleaning up.

Evan was a king and everyone lived happily ever after and never had problems with rubbish again thanks to their new system… REDUCE REUSE RECYCLE!!!

A couple of weeks ago Te Ngahere had to create a creative piece of writing. We had to include lots of detail to really show the reader what we were talking about. Our writing was based of reduce, reuse and recycle. I was learning to use metaphors, speech marks and alliteration. I think I used a good amount of alliteration and speech marks. Next time I think I need to work on putting more metaphors into my writing.

Should Plastic Bags be banned from supermarket

Should plastic bags be used in supermarkets?

In my opinion plastic bag should in deed be banned from supermarkets. Why do I think this well I will tell you all about in the next paragraph. What do you think about plastic bags being banned at supermarkets?

Plastic bags are a huge thing in this world. They are use at supermarkets some shopping centres. When you think about plastic bags kill marine animals like turtles dolphins and other marine animals. Did you know that turtles eat jellyfish and when plastic bags find themselves in the ocean there look a lot like jellyfish and the thing is turtles can’t tell the difference between a plastic bag and a jellyfish? How would you like it if you had plastic stuck in your mouth which could prevently lead to choking?

Another reason of mine is that plastic bags are not biodegradable. You’re probably thinking what is biodegradable well biodegradable means that it can break down and it fertilises the soil and water. Plastic bags are photodegradable which means it needs the sunlight to break down and this process take hundreds of years. The bad thing is that at land fills everything is just dumped and most plastic bags are piled under other rubbish which prevents the sunlight from reaching the plastic bags under all of the rubbish. When the plastic bags do break down to smaller pieces they can be carried in the wind polluting soil water and marine animals.

We need to stop plastic bags because plastic bags are helping our ozone layer create a big hole. The ozone layer protects us from the sun and once our ozone layer is broken the heat from the sun melts the icebergs and then water rises also there is a chance people could start to get skin cancer.

Hopefully you agree with my statements about plastic bags. If you want to help bring your own reusable bags to supermarkets.

Reflection:
In the first week of term 4 we had to write a persuasive piece of writing about should plastic bags be banned in supermarkets, at the top of our page we had to write at the top what we were learning. I was learning to use metaphors in my writing. In wrote my story on supermarkets should ban plastic bags. What do you think about plastic bags being ban from supermarkets? Next time I write a persuasive piece of writing I think I need to work on getting more metaphor in my writing.

Visual Mihi

In week one of term 4 we were asked to make a visual mihi on a google drawing. We had to pick images that we thought would remind us about a part in the mihi we do in the morning. We also had to write a little summery under them why the image reminds us of parts of the mihi.
